At his arraignment yesterday, John (“Mule”) pleaded not guilty and thought he was being released until his court date on September 12. However, he was returned to the jail’s psych ward and then transferred to a mental health hospital to be held involuntarily for 14 days under Calif. Code Section 5250 after being evaluated as “gravely disabled.”
Fortunately a determined patients’ rights advocate from the Law Foundation of Silicone Valley intervened, and Mule was released the next day. His release papers state, “Probable cause does not exist for certification type 03” and he “has not displayed any signs of a mental illness.”
