The white picket fence has long been a symbol of the American dream: a happy family living in a nice house in a safe community. For many people, owning a house with the white picket fence is their ultimate goal in life. Mule has chosen to make the outdoors his home as he pursues his dream of roaming free. Many of the homes on this San Diego suburban street had white picket fences. I had to run ahead to set up for these two shots because Mule was not going to stop and wait for me to shout out “Action!” I wish I could have captured one more white pocket fence shot, but it was not to be.
