Land Ownership

For several days The Mules stayed in an old walnut grove not far from the courthouse in Morgan Hill. The local police showed up and told John (“Mule”) he had leave the property. The walnut grove is now gone, replaced by upscale housing and a Honda dealership as seen in this aerial photo. See the video at 3MulesMovie.com/snippets.

Arrest by CHP in Gilroy

John (“Mule”) was arrested on this date 6 years ago. Lady, Little Girl and Pepper were impounded near Gilroy. I wasn’t traveling with them at the time, but received a phone call from the Santa Clara County Jail in the middle of the night. I immediately drove to San Jose that morning. These are the mules’ kennel cards and John’s mug shot. See the video at 3MulesMovie.com/snippets

Today, six years ago…

On this day, six years ago, John (“Mule”) received a citation in San Bruno that stated “no horses or cattle within city limits,” which turned out to be an erroneous interpretation of the city’s animal ordinances.

Watch the video of the incident under this website’s Snippets tab, Day 91 – July 23, 2013 – “911.”

A Mule’s Eye View

My video “Snippet” for today gives a glimpse of a day in the life of Pepper the mule, literally from her point of view.  Before heading home from Norco a week earlier, I left John (‘Mule’) with two GoPro cameras and showed him how to use them, and he cleverly mounted the camera between Pepper’s eyes.  You can see the footage by choosing SNIPPETS on the top menu.

Urban Development

The Mules spent the night next to a San Diego Trolley light rail line in Lemon Grove on February 26, 2013, adjacent to a large piece of vacant hillside land.  Long ago it may have been a lemon grove.  As you can see from these recent photos, it is unlikely The Mules will be able to stay here again.  See the video clip on this website under “Snippets” or on Vimeo at https://vimeo.com/319927040
